Prepare the right conversation
The largest quote difference may be a different job: one proposal may address the opener while another includes door sections, tracks or related installation work. Start with a clear symptom or replacement goal, then ask the technician to explain which parts of the system require attention.
Ask the technician to distinguish the components
Have the written proposal identify door sections, tracks, rollers, springs, cables, opener and controls only as they apply to the proposed job. Ask why each replacement is recommended. A general description such as door repair should not leave you guessing which work the price includes.
Compare the whole replacement package
For a new door, compare the specified model, material, finish, insulation option, windows, hardware and removal. For an opener, compare compatibility, included controls and installation responsibilities. Confirm any electrical work or finish repair that needs a separate provider.
Keep completion and service information
Ask what safety and operating checks are included at completion and which instructions the installer will provide. Keep the product information, invoice, warranty terms and service contact. This planner does not test or certify door safety and does not recommend a repair from the observations entered.
Questions before you authorize work
- Which components are included, and why?
- What will remain from the existing door or opener system?
- Which safety and operating checks are included?
- What product and workmanship warranty terms apply?
